Medicinal Plant Garden
By design and its very nature and purpose, the new Maynard W. Quimby Medicinal Plant Garden complex at the University of Mississippi is the “greenest” facility on the Oxford campus. The Quimby Garden maintains a diverse, accurately identified and medicinally important living plant collection to support drug-discovery efforts within our School of Pharmacy and the National Center for Natural Products Research.
USDA Ag Research
The Natural Products Utilization Research Unit develops natural products for use in agriculture. The goal is to produce more toxicologically benign pest management tools and to improve the nutriceutical value of crops. This fundamental research aids in the development of alternative crops for production of pharmaceuticals and botanical supplements. Learn more on the ARS USDA site.
Waller Outdoor Growing Facility
Until 2022, the Coy W. Waller Laboratory Complex, located on the campus of the University of Mississippi, was the only legal marijuana farm and production facility in the United States. Since 1968, the National Institute on Drug Abuse has contracted with the university lab to grow, harvest and process marijuana and to ship it to licensed facilities across the country for research purposes.
