The Memphis area has six interstate highways. The interstate highways are 22, 40, 55, 69, 240 and 269. I-69 is currently under construction. Memphis will be the new interstate’s halfway point. Amtrak’s “City of New Orleans” passenger service from Chicago to New Orleans stops at historic Central Station in Memphis. Amtrak also provides service to New York, Seattle, Denver, and Los Angeles via Union Station in Chicago. The “City of New Orleans” includes amenities such as a dining car, a theater car, and a sightseeing lounge.

The NBA’s Memphis Grizzlies and the University of Memphis Tigers play under the same arena roof at FedExForum. The University of Mississippi competes in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) and draws many avid fans from the Memphis area for all its sporting events.
As the Triple-A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals since 1998, the Memphis Redbirds are the first and only professional sports franchise to be recognized as a charity (501C3). Their mission is to improve the lives of the children in our community through programs like RBI (Returning Baseball to the Inner-City) and STRIPES (Sports Teams Returning In the Public Education System). Autozone Park, the Redbirds ballpark, is located in the heart of Downtown Memphis. AutoZone Park was named the 2009 Minor League Ballpark of the Year by Baseball America.
